Montello Primary Reaches Important Milestone

Tasmanian Government

Stage one of the $12.45 million upgrade of Montello Primary School is now complete, marking a major milestone in the redevelopment.

The Tasmanian Government is delivering on its commitment to upgrade schools across the State, with students and staff already benefiting from works at Montello.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the works included refurbishment of learning spaces and amenities on the lower ground floor, as well as a new teaching kitchen, canteen, and student dining room on the upper ground floor.

"It is fantastic to have students and staff now using these new spaces, and I am pleased to hear that they have been well received," Minister Palmer said.

"A new playground has also been installed at Montello Primary School as part of our $10 million Playground and Sports Court Upgrades Program.

"Montello Primary is the first school to receive an upgraded playground through the Program, and students are now enjoying their new facilities."

Through the Playground and Sports Courts Upgrade Program, 103 schools and child and family learning centres across Tasmania will receive upgrades, with projects underway at Elizabeth College, New Norfolk Primary School, Newstead College and Rosny College.

Minister Palmer said the next stage of the redevelopment works at Montello Primary School will focus on the school's early childhood area, administration, and student support spaces.

"We are delivering the education infrastructure our learning need to grow and thrive," Minister Palmer said.

All works at Montello Primary School are expected to be completed in late 2026.
