More graduate nurses start their career in Tasmania

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Health

More Tasmanians are starting their careers in our health system at a time when we need them most.

We know how important it is to provide opportunities for new graduates as they are the next generation of our health workforce.

I am delighted that the latest round of more than 100 new graduate nurses under the THS Transition to Practice program commenced with southern THS services yesterday, including the RHH, community services and in mental health. This latest round follows new graduates commencing in the North earlier this year.

These positions provide additional support, tailored to the transition to their new role, and we are proud to have significantly boosted these positions since 2014.

Transition to Practice nurse positions are offered to recently graduated nurses with less than six months full-time experience.

Transition to Practice positions have been made available in a wide range of practice settings, including in our metropolitan and rural hospitals and we are delighted to have these nurses on board.
