More Liberal cuts on way

Tasmanian Labor

· Gutwein fails to rule out more cuts

· Liberals driving Tasmania into massive debt

· Bad budget is getting worse

The Federal Government's Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook yesterday forecast reduced GST returns but the Hodgman Government has failed to prepare Tasmania and failed to rule making out more cuts to frontline jobs and essential services.

Shadow Treasurer David O'Byrne said the Liberals have squandered the good times and now Tasmanians were being forced to pay for it.

"Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein's savage $450 million of cuts to frontline jobs and essential services are already hurting our community," Mr O'Byrne said.

"The Liberals promised this would come from cuts to excessive spending on consultants, travel and advertising but they keep splashing cash on these, so it can't be accurate.

"And yesterday he would not rule out more Liberal cuts. That means cuts to jobs, cuts to surgery waiting lists, cuts to spending on roads and cuts to spending on building affordable housing.

"Peter Gutwein was quick to boast about his 'strategic, disciplined budget management' but failed to tell Tasmanians why he was driving the budget into more than $1 billion in debt.

"The Liberals house of cards budget has come crashing down and Peter Gutwein's only plan is more cuts and more raids to government businesses.

"He needs to come out today and tell Tasmanians which jobs and which services will face the axe."
