More than $3 million cash and 2000 litres of GBL seized; two charged - Drug and Firearms Squad

Drug and Firearms Squad detectives have charged two men after seizing more than $3 million cash, following raids on two units in Sydney's south-west targeting the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs.

In August this year, detectives from the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Aphrasia to investigate the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney's south-west.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives, with assistance from South West Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group (OSG), executed a search warrant at a Bankstown unit about 6am today (Wednesday 1 December 2021).

During the search, police seized more than $3 million cash and steroids.

A short time later, a crime scene warrant was executed at a Yagoona address, where police located a clandestine laboratory containing equipment consistent with the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs, as well as 2000 litres of Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL).

That property has since been rendered safe by Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT crews and is currently being examined and dismantled by the Drug and Firearms Squad's Chemical Operations Team.

Two men – aged 43 and 44 – were arrested at the Bankstown address and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The older man has been charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug (more than large commercial quantity), deal with proceeds of crime (above $100,000), knowingly direct activities of criminal group, and manufacture prohibited drug (larger than indictable quantity – not cannabis).

The younger man was charged with two counts supply prohibited drug (more than large commercial quantity), manufacture prohibited drug (larger than indictable quantity – not cannabis), deal with proceeds of crime (above $100,000), and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Both men were refused bail and are due to appear tomorrow (Thursday 2 December 2021) at Bankstown Local Court.
