Police have seized more than 60kg of methlyamphetamine after emergency services responded to a unit fire in Epping yesterday, NSW Police say.
Fire & Rescue NSW officers were called to a unit block in Hazelwood Place, Epping, about 11.50am on Monday 12 March 2018, after a fire alarm was triggered.
When firefighters entered the unit, they found what appeared to be a clandestine laboratory.
Neighbouring units were evacuated as a precaution by police.
Officers from Ryde Police Area Command established a crime scene and initiated an investigation.
Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW Hazmat and the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Unit rendered the location safe and dismantled the lab.
Ryde detectives seized more than 60kg of a crystalline substance, believed to be methylamphetamine, with estimated potential street value of more $30 million.
Police are now seeking the whereabouts of a man believed to have left the area shortly before emergency services arrived.
The man is described as being aged between 20 and 30, having a solid build, about 180cm tall, with an olive/tanned complexion, dark hair, and possibly suffering facial burns.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Ryde detectives on 9858 9299 or Crime Stoppers.
