WDVCAS NSW has welcomed the Prime Minister'sannouncement of a $328 million investment in the Fourth Action Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children ($78 million of which was previously announced in February), however notes with concern some important omissions from the package.
"What is pleasing about this package in the new investment we are seeing in primary prevention to deliver strategies which will tackle the root causes of violence against women and their children – gender inequality,rigid gender roles and disrespectful attitudes towards women and girls," says WDVCAS NSW Director, Hayley Foster. "And it is essential that we continue to fund proven existing programs such as 1800RESPECT, DV Alertand ANROWS."
WDVCAS NSW is concerned however, that the funding package fails to address the crucial gaps whichcurrently exist in the women's safety service system.
