Mother charged following death of newborn baby in Northern Beaches

A woman has been charged following the death of a newborn baby in Sydney’s Northern Beaches last year, NSW Police say.

On Friday 20 October 2017, police were called to Mona Vale Hospital after a woman attended and required treatment following the birth of a child.

Later that day, officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended a home in Newport, where a newborn baby was located dead inside.

A crime scene was established and an investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.

On Thursday 24 May 2018, a 22-year-old woman attended Manly Police Station where she was arrested and charged with mother alone conceal birth by disposing body.

She appeared at Manly Local Court on Thursday (24 May 2018) where she was granted conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday 7 June 2018.
