Mothers don't always know best

A Blackburn North woman has had her licence suspended for 12 months after allegedly driving at almost four times the legal alcohol limit with a baby in the car, Victoria Police say.

The 38-year-old woman was intercepted at a random breath test site on Whitehorse Road, Box Hill about 4.30pm today and tested positive to a preliminary breath test.

She had an 11-month-old baby in the car at the time, as well as a male passenger, who was the holder of a full driver’s licence and did not have alcohol in his system.

The woman was taken back to the police station, where she allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration reading of .197 per cent.

Her licence was immediately suspended and she is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving.

The intercept forms part of Operation Furlong, a statewide focus on road behaviour and awareness around the importance of taking responsibility for your own actions on the road.

The operation, which started Friday at 12.01am, will finish on Tuesday, 2 November at 11.59pm.

Police will target the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries, including speed, driver distraction, seatbelt offences, fatigue and drink and drug driving.
