The arrival of the MotoGP™ Australian Grand Prix on the Adelaide Street Circuit from November 2027 is set to deliver a major economic boost for South Australia, filling accommodation, food and hospitality venues.
Building on the success of LIV Golf and Gather Round, the Malinauskas Labor Government has secured the international event which will represent the first time a MotoGP-era event has ever been held near the centre of a city.
The race will be held on a revised version of the Grand Prix circuit last used in the mid-nineties, and will see the return of racing in iconic locations including Stag Corner at the intersection of Rundle Street and East Terrace.
The move to a city circuit represents an opportunity to significantly grow the economic impact of the MotoGP Grand Prix, with visitors expected to flock to Adelaide to experience the event, filling hotel rooms, cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars.
The 2025 MotoGP event at Philip Island drew a crowd of more than 90,000 people across three days.
In contrast, the 2025 bp Adelaide Grand Final on the Adelaide Street circuit drew more than 280,000 people over four days.
The first Australian MotoGP™ in Adelaide will be held across three days in November 2027 in the period before the bp Adelaide Grand Final to maximise utilisation of the circuit and minimise disruptions.
In 2025, global exposure combined with tourism and hospitality of MotoGP Grand Prix events delivered an average of €130m ($217m) in economic impact to local economies.
MotoGP is enjoying unprecedented global growth, with more than 630 million fans, 3.6 million attendees in 2025, and TV audiences up 9 per cent over the past year.
Premier Peter Malinauskas says the state has an undeniable economic momentum.
"The ABS statistics released only yesterday demonstrate we are at full employment and outperforming the rest of the country," the Premier said.
"But we are not resting on our laurels. We are seizing the opportunity to deliver MotoGP - on the iconic Adelaide Grand Prix street circuit - because we know it will deliver massive benefits for our economy, in particular the thousands of accommodation providers, tourism operators and hospitality venues that cater for visitors each year."
"The national and international visitors that will be drawn to our city to attend the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix will bring new investment and spending into our state."
"The event will also project Adelaide and South Australia on the world stage to a massive TV audience, further driving confidence and investment."
Anna Moeller, CEO of the Australian Hotels Association says South Australia is now more than a destination state.
"We are a world-class destination state," she said.
"It all starts with the bed nights, and then the rest follows, as people then go somewhere to eat and to drink and spend money in our retail stores."
"When these visitors are from interstate or overseas coming for a new event, that is fresh money coming into the state."
"That's good not just for our pubs which will be heaving - it's good for the whole state economy."
