Motorcycle Rider Critical After Head-on Collision

A man from Tasmania's North-West is in a critical condition in Royal Hobart Hospital following a head-on collision today between two motorcycles in the Middlesex area, near Cradle Mountain.

The crash happened about 11.35am Sunday on Cradle Mountain Road, Middlesex, involving the Tasmanian man and an interstate rider on a separate motorcycle.

The mainland rider, aged in his mid 50s, sustained non life-threatening injuries and is receiving treatment at the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie.

The Tasmanian rider, aged in his mid 30s, sustained serious injuries and was transferred to Royal Hobart Hospital earlier today. He remains in a critical condition.

Emergency services and crash investigators were on scene for more than three hours before the road was fully reopened.
