A man has died after a motorcycle crash in the state's south this afternoon.
About 4.30pm today (Saturday 4 July 2026), emergency services were called to the intersection of Shellharbour Road and Woodlands Road, Barrack Heights, after reports of a two vehicle crash.
Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended and found a Toyota SUV and motorcycle had collided causing the rider to come off the motorcycle.
The rider – an 18-year-old man – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition.
Police have since been told the 18-year-old has died in hospital.
The learner driver – a 16-year-old boy – and supervisor was uninjured and taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
