A critical incident investigation is underway after a motorcyclist was struck by two vehicles, including a police vehicle, in Sydney's west this morning.
Shortly before 2am today (Wednesday 23 July 2025), a motorcycle was being ridden east along the M4 near Church Street at Parramatta, when it was involved in a collision with a white sedan, throwing the rider to the road. A marked police vehicle, from Cumberland Police Area Command, then struck the rider.
Police immediately commenced CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived on the scene. The man was taken to Westmead Hospital; however, could not be revived. The man is yet to be formally identified.
The driver of sedan – a man with age yet to be identified – and a male Senior Constable were taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established and a critical incident team from Auburn Police Area Command, with the assistance from Crash Investigation Unit, will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
The police vehicle was not on urgent duty and did not have lights or sirens activated at the time. There had been no interaction with and no pursuit of the motorcyclist or any other vehicle. Initial information is the officers were returning to the station when the incident occurred.
The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Police investigators are on site and due to the nature of the crash there is no forecast of when the road will reopen.
