Police have rescued a motorist after she became trapped in her vehicle while driving into flood waters on the state's central coast.

About 3:40pm yesterday (Sunday 21 March 2021), a green Hyundai Getz sedan has driven along the River Road, Wyong. The roadway was submerged due to heavy rains in the area.

Shortly after entering the water the Hyundai has been pushed sideways due to the fast-flowing water.

As this was occurring two police officers have arrived on the scene for an unrelated matter and observed that the driver was still in the Hyundai.

One of the officers, an acting inspector, entered the water on foot and was able to remove the 80-year-old woman from the Hyundai. The Hyundai was then pushed by the water into the nearby Wyong River.

No injuries were sustained to either the motorist or the officer.

Motorist are reminded not to drive into any roadways that are covered by water due to the dangers of becoming trapped.
