Mudgee netballers score court upgrades

Netballers from across the Mudgee region are set to benefit from a major upgrade thanks to the NSW Nationals' Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Nationals Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders has announced $280,000 for Mid-Western Regional Council to upgrade and refresh the courts at the Glen Willow Regional Sports Complex.

"Netball is one of the most popular sports right across our region, and growing every year," Mr Saunders said.

"As a father of two daughters, I know how important it is for women and girls to have access to great sporting facilities, so they can enjoy all the physical, mental and social benefits that sport provides."

Mid-Western Regional Council Mayor Des Kennedy said the upgrades will be very welcome by the local netball community.

"There are currently 101 seniors and 391 junior netball players registered within the region so these Glen Willow courts are heavily used throughout the season," Councillor Kennedy said.

"Some of the courts are aging and these upgrades will refresh them so they're fit for play for current and future netball players.

"I'd like to thank the NSW Government for delivering funding to this project."

The $660 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government's $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure in the regions.

Over $19.5 million has been committed across the Dubbo electorate since the SCCF program was introduced.
