Queenslanders will have the chance to attend more than 100 events during Multicultural Queensland Month, throughout August in celebration of our State's diversity.
In launching the month, Multicultural Affairs Minister Stirling Hinchliffe encouraged all Queenslanders to get along to an event.
"Our diversity is one of Queensland's greatest strengths and it's fantastic that we have a month set aside to acknowledge its importance," Mr Hinchliffe said.
"The theme of the month this year is 'We All Belong', which is appropriate because Queensland is home to people from more than 220 different countries and territories, who speak more than 180 languages at home and identify with over 110 different faiths.
"Multicultural Queensland Month celebrates this success story, our unique diversity and its benefits.
"While we may come from different cultures, we all love living in Queensland," he said.
Some of the many events celebrating this diversity includes:
- Brisbane Lions v Western Bulldogs AFL multicultural round – 4 August
- Pub Choir 'Love you Queensland tour – at 10 regional locations
- Rockhampton Cultural Festival – 24 August
- Townsville Cultural Festival – 16 August
- Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival – 11 August
"Also, the Ekka's Multicultural Plaza Music Stage will feature, for the first time in the Royal Queensland Show's history, an Australian Citizenship Ceremony," Mr Hinchliffe said.
"This will be a wonderful way for our newest Australians to be welcomed to Queensland at our states favourite annual show.
"Multicultural Queensland Month will be capped off by recognising our community heroes through the Multicultural Queensland Awards on 30 August.
"All the events during the month are designed to bring people together and recognise that while we all may come from different backgrounds, Queensland is a place where we all belong.
"The Palaszczuk Government is committed to creating a more cohesive and welcoming multicultural society. We are proudly building an inclusive, harmonious and united Queensland."
