Detectives from Hendra Criminal Investigation Branch commenced Operation Sierra Guardian in response to eight fires, suspected to have been deliberately lit between September 2020 and last night (February 9).

Investigators linked fires at several vacant Alderley addresses including Samford Road, South Pine Road, and Alderley Avenue during that time.

This operation closed just before 11pm last night, when a 38-year-old Alderley man was apprehended in Newmarket after he allegedly started a fire at a vacant home in Gracemere Street.

The Alderley man was charged with 13 counts of arson, one count of attempted arson and two counts of breach of bail. He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court later today.

Police investigating this matter are seeking to speak with people who have witnessed last night's incident or those with dash-cam, or CCTV from the surrounding areas.
