Officers from Mount Isa Tactical Crime Squad (TCS), Northern Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) and Gold Coast MOCS have charged 19 people across the state with 271 drug offences as part of Operation Whiskey Decker.
Mount Isa District TCS commenced Operation Whiskey Decker in June 2024 to investigate an alleged methylamphetamine trafficking syndicate operating in Northwest Queensland.
With assistance of the Northern Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS), TAC officers identified a network of alleged drug traffickers responsible for the alleged supply of cocaine, methylamphetamine, MDMA, cannabis and heroin throughout Queensland.
On May 20 and 21, police from Mount Isa TCS, Northern MOCS, Mackay CIB and TCS, Gold Coast MOCS, State Flying Squad, and Townsville Dog Squad executed search warrants at addresses in Mount Isa, Mackay, Ipswich, Logan and the Gold Coast and arrested 19 people in relation to 271 offences.
Mount Isa TCS officers worked relentlessly, over months to investigate the alleged offences during this protracted and multi-faceted operation, to disrupt and prevent the trafficking and supply of illicit drugs within the community.
During operation, police seized more than $110,000 in cash, 35g of cocaine and more than 270g of methylamphetamines including 200grams that were bound for Mount Isa.
Mount Isa District Tactical Crime Squad Officer in Charge Sergeant Nate Carlton said significant resources have been utilised to investigate syndicates and individuals involved in the distribution of methylamphetamines and other illicit drugs in the community.
"Drugs cause considerable harm and misery in families and the wider community.
"We are committed to disrupting the trafficking and supply of drugs and ask the public to continue assisting us by providing any information regarding drug supply.
"Police fully utilise and investigate all information provided by members of the public to prevent, deter, disrupt and intercept illicit drug production, trafficking and sale in Mount Isa and across Queensland," Sergeant Carlton said.
"If anyone has any information at all in relation to the use, supply or trafficking of serious drugs such as methylamphetamine, cocaine and MDMA in the community, police urge them to report the matter via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. It doesn't matter how small or insignificant you believe the information to be, that information may be the piece of the puzzle police need to identify and dismantle drug offending."
Police encourage anyone in our community who is experiencing drug dependence to seek support from Queensland Health's Alcohol and Drug Information Service.
