Kiama's Terralong Street underbridge is set to come alive with colour and creativity as renowned Australian artist Jimmy Dvate begins work on a striking new mural that celebrates our town's natural beauty and cultural vibrancy.
Work on the mural commences this week, with completion expected later this month. Community members and visitors are encouraged to stop by and watch the creative process unfold.
This project is proudly supported by Kiama Council as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces through art and investing in Creative Kiama's(PDF, 5MB) vision for a thriving, inclusive, and culturally rich community.
"This mural will transform the Terralong Street underbridge into a landmark that reflects Kiama's creative energy and natural beauty," said Mayor Cameron McDonald. "Public art like this helps build a strong sense of place, community pride, and cultural identity."
Jimmy Dvate is a celebrated contemporary artist best known for his large-scale murals and contributions to Australia's public art landscape. Trained in graphic design and visual arts at Monash University, Jimmy's works are instantly recognisable for their photorealistic precision, attention to detail, and strong sense of design. Painting on the streets of Melbourne since 1997, Dvate's name has become synonymous with Australia's street art movement.
Kiama Council's Cultural Development team is thrilled to welcome an artist of Jimmy's calibre to the region.
This exciting project forms part of Creative Kiama's Cultural Plan 2025–2029, aligning with Pillar 4: Creative Infrastructure - which supports more public street art, murals, and outdoor festivals that contribute to Kiama's unique identity.
