Murals destroyed, youth charged in Newtown

A youth has been charged following the destruction of two murals in Newtown yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 7pm on Monday 20 November 2017, police received reports of two males defacing a mural on the external wall of a hotel on King Street, Newton.

Following that report, officers patrolling sighted a 16-year-old male damaging a second mural on a wall in Bray Street, Erskineville.

Police from Newtown attended Bray Street, Erskineville where they arrested the 16-year-old male.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with graffiti (x2) and possess graffiti implement.

The teenager will appear at a Children’s Court on Tuesday 16 January 2018.
