Murder of Mr Peter Seaford, 1989, SA

Police are highlighting the 1989 murder of Mr Peter Seaford in Whyalla in a bid to prompt the community to come forward with information that may finally help close the case, according to SA Police.

There is a Government Reward of $200,000, payable at the discretion of the Commissioner of Police, to anyone providing information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or people responsible for Mr Seaford’s murder.

Mr Peter Seaford, 31, was murdered in his Essington Lewis Avenue, Whyalla unit around 4.45am on Sunday, 12 March, 1989. He was murdered when he returned home after attending an alarm call earlier that morning at his business at the corner of Essington Lewis Avenue and Elliott Street, Whyalla.

Mr Seaford died as a result of traumatic brain damage, due to multiple blows with a blunt object.

The motive for his murder is suspected to be robbery.

Detective Acting Inspector Cameron Georg, Major Crime Investigation Section, says police never close a murder file until the case is solved.

"The investigation into Mr Seaford’s murder will remain allocated to an experienced Major Crime investigator until it is solved.

"There is no time limit on when someone can be prosecuted for homicide and police will pursue every opportunity to investigate new evidence or fresh leads as they become available."
