NAIDOC Week 6

City of Mount Gambier in collaboration with Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation, will host the annual NAIDOC Week community celebration on Monday 7 July 2025 with a gathering at Cave Garden/Thugi from 9:30am.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone in 2025 - 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy celebrates not only the achievements of the past, but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.

The annual community celebration includes a reception hosted by City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM, a flag raising ceremony featuring the raising of the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and a Smoking Ceremony led by local cultural leaders.

NAIDOC Week is a deeply important time for our city, it is a chance to come together in recognition of the enduring culture, strength and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. - City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin

"I'm honoured to support this event each year and to stand alongside our First Nations community, Elders and cultural leaders. Celebrations like these not only honour the past, but also build understanding, connection, and unity across our community. They remind us of the vital role First Nations people play in shaping the cultural fabric of Mount Gambier."

The NAIDOC community street march along Commercial Street to Pangula Mannamurna will follow, culminating in a community barbecue and the presentation of the 2025 NAIDOC Awards.
