National Battlefields Commission inaugurates new Halloween Garden on Plains of Abraham, where legends come alive though folk art

From: The National Battlefields Commission

This morning, the National Battlefields Commission (NBC) inaugurated the new Halloween Garden on the Plains of Abraham, where Park legends come alive through folk art. The event took place in the presence of Annie Talbot, the Commission's Secretary-General Manager, Stéphane Roy, Director of Museum Affairs and the driving force behind this project, and Patrick Lavallée, artist and sculptor. Two special guests, folk-art specialists Adrien Levasseur and Christian Denis, were also present.

From October 1 to 31, sixteen sculptures crafted by Lavallée showcase the mysteries and legends of the Plains of Abraham in the magnificent decor of the Joan of Arc Garden. The sculptures, created especially for the Halloween Garden, offer visitors a window into the colourful world of the artist's naïve and vibrant imagination. In addition to the hardwood pieces at the centre of his sculptures, Lavallée, a child at heart, uses metal, rubber and a variety of other odds and ends. Gallery posts, snowshoes, and even a garden hose are featured in this innovative representation of the Park's legends, open to the public free of charge.

The Halloween Garden is part of our fall program sure to enchant the entire family. Lively evenings invite the more daring to discover darker aspects of the Park's history, while a falconry demonstration offers acrobatic wonders as intriguing as they are exciting. The treasure hunts are back for little ones, adding to the wonder of the season.

- Stéphane Roy, Director of Museum Affairs

"I wish you as much enjoyment and delight visiting the Halloween Garden as I had creating it. Go back to your childhood and marvel at my naive imagination."
