National Committee activities

Through their vast networks in various sectors of Canadian society and a range of partnerships with Women Deliver 2019 Mobilization Canada, civil society and representatives from the private and public sectors across the country, committee members engaged countless Canadians, including youth, Indigenous people, LGBTQ2 communities, educators and politicians across the country and actively promoted discussions on gender equality, diversity and inclusion.

Some highlights of their efforts are included below:

• An Inspiring Leadership Forum held in Regina, Saskatchewan, in March attracted more than 800 participants, empowering them to be comfortable in their authentic selves and to honour their individuality.
• An International Women's Day round-table discussion on economic empowerment and entrepreneurship held in Toronto, Ontario, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Black women who are focused on business and making positive impacts in Canada.
• Students at the University of Regina had the opportunity to listen to the experiences of young Indigenous women studying there and explore Indigenous women's leadership and how to best prepare for the next generation of leaders.
• More than 300 youth and educators representing high school gay-straight alliances from across the country gathered in Fredericton, New Brunswick, at the OUTShine conference.
• More than 300 youth participated in the Prime Minister's Youth Forum, held in Ottawa, Ontario, in May, which included a panel discussion on gender equality, featuring Shania Pruden, the youngest National Committee member.
• More than 125 participants attended the Day of Action on Parliament Hill on May 13, which featured a number of speakers, including Simone Cavanaugh, a National Committee member.
• A bilingual fireside chat, featuring Joanne Liu, International President of Doctors Without Borders, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, and others, was held in Montréal, Quebec, and livestreamed on social media. This event attracted more than 125 on-site participants and virtual participants from a potential audience of more than 60,000, with support from Women Deliver 2019 Mobilization Canada.
• The National Committee inspired a panel discussion on Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers at Canada's largest IT event held in Toronto, Ontario, in May, coordinated by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
• An online social media campaign focused on preventing online misogyny attracted the participation of more than 5 million Canadians from across the country.
• More than 20 events during the Women Deliver pre-conference and conference period featured the participation and efforts of National Committee members, including:
  • participation in Canada's Ministerial Forum featuring global representation
  • support for numerous city of Vancouver events
  • speaker roles in three Women Deliver conference sessions
  • moderator roles in several Women Deliver conference and pre-conference sessions
  • providing opportunities for young aspiring journalists on internships to cover a global event
  • spearheading a pre-conference session encouraging philanthropists to invest in projects led by, and supporting, women
  • a women educators' symposium with representatives from all provinces and territories in Canada
