Statement
Nurses are a critical part of Canada's health care community. In fact, they are Canada's largest group of health care professionals and we all benefit from their knowledge, skills and care.
May 6 to 12 is National Nursing Week and this year's theme-"A Voice to Lead, Health for All"-reminds us of the positive impact nurses have on our lives and on our health care system. The theme also speaks to the principle that health is a balance of mental, physical and social well-being. Nurses play a vital role in helping us all reach our optimal health and quality of life.
Nursing is a true calling. It is a physically and emotionally demanding profession. Nurses are advocates for patients and use their insights to help influence the quality of health for those in their care.
As Minister of Health, I am proud to recognize the significant contribution made by dedicated nurses every day. This includes the many hard-working nurses employed across the health portfolio and in other federal departments and agencies.
This week and always, I am grateful for our nurses and thank them for their dedication and commitment. I invite everyone to join with me to celebrate nurses and their importance in helping Canadians live healthier lives.
The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, P.C., M.P.
Minister of Health
