National Reconciliation Week 2025: Bridging Now To Next

Tuesday 27 May

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) - Tuesday 27 May-3 June - is a time for reflection, truth-telling, and collective action.

The dates mark the significant milestones in Australia's journey towards reconciliation: the 1967 Referendum and the 1992 Mabo decision.

It's an opportunity for all of us to acknowledge our shared history, confront the reality of past and ongoing injustices, and work together toward a more just and inclusive future.

2025 National Reconciliation Week theme

The 2025 theme - "Bridging Now to Next" - calls on us to build strong, respectful relationships that honour the truths of the past while paving the way forward.

As a national cross-disability organisation, we recognise that our advocacy must actively challenge both racism and ableism - within our systems, our communities, and within ourselves. Reconciliation means showing up, speaking out, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

"Bridging Now to Next" reminds us that reconciliation is not just about recognition - it's about action.

Australia's journey toward reconciliation has never been linear. We've seen powerful moments of progress, but also painful setbacks. For First Nations people with disability, the path is further shaped by overlapping barriers and injustices that demand truth-telling, healing, and deep structural change.

Reconciliation is everyone's responsibility. Each of us has a role to play in bridging the gap between where we are today and the inclusive, respectful future we all envision.
