National report confirms growth in apprentices and trainees

National data released today has confirmed a significant jump in Tasmanian apprentices and trainees since the re-election of the Hodgman Government in March this year.

There has been a 32 per cent jump in government-funded vocational education students from January to June this year when compared to the quarter from January to March.

There has also been a 38 per cent jump in program enrolments and a massive 66 per cent jump in subject enrolments over the same period.

We are doing everything we can to give our workforce the right skills in the areas that need them, and these great results are proof that our long term plan is working to fill the jobs of the future.

We will continue to roll out initiatives to encourage further growth in apprentices and trainees such as the Government’s User Choice Program that is making available $20 million to subside the cost for training apprentices and trainees.

The 2018/19 Budget is also investing $7.5 million over three years for Targeted Small Business Grants for Apprentices and Trainees, worth up to $5,000 for each new trainee or apprentice.

These initiatives will ensure we have the workforce we need to build Tasmania’s future while stimulating growth and getting Tasmanians into real jobs for the longer term.

Note: As per the explanatory note added to the front page of the report, figures for Tasmania for the January to June 2018 period have been under-reported due to a data processing error.
