Rockhampton Regional Council is once again driving home the importance of road safety by sashing the Romagnola Bull at O'Shanesy Park, Allenstown, in yellow, the colour of National Road Safety Week.

Held in May each year, National Road Safety Week highlights key road safety issues such as speeding, mobile phone use while driving, and drink driving.

Infrastructure Councillor Marika Taylor said the week is always a timely reminder for motorists and pedestrians to take greater care when on the road.

"National Road Safety Week is a good time for us as a community to stop and consider our habits when driving," Cr Taylor said.

"Our habits should ensure safety not just for ourselves, but for other drivers and pedestrians, as we need to set a positive example for the next generation.

"If we all can collectively action the National Road Safety Week pledge of driving so others survive, then our community will be better for it."

In Queensland last year there were 302 fatalities, which was an increase of 9.4% compared to 2023.

"Within the Central Queensland region in 2024, there were 49 deaths recorded on our roads which is an alarming figure," Cr Taylor said.

"These statistics are more than just numbers on paper, these represent people who had families and friends that have forever been impacted.

"I encourage you this week to really consider your habits when driving and take the pledge to drive so others survive, ensuring our roads are safer for everyone."
