Downer EDI Works Wins WHS Award For Job In Canberra
The sought after Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC) National Excellence in Workplace Health and Safety Awardhas been won by Downer EDI Worksat the National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards on the weekend.
Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said, "The OFSC National WHS Award always attracts high quality calibre entries from well-respected construction contractors and high quality projects and this is no exception with Downer EDI Works and Tuggeranong Parkway project in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT)."
Downer EDI Works successfully placed 57,227m2 of modified cape seal on 3.1km of one of Canberra's main arterial roadways under a full road closure.
The contractor created a detailed traffic management plan, inducting all personnel specifically for the project and undertook required WHS standards to ensure the project was completed safely and on time.
"By closing the Tuggeranong Parkway for 53 hours, the Downer eliminated two-weeks from the schedule required for the same scope of works," Denita Wawn said.
"To project was a massive undertaking with over 130 pages of traffic control plans applied, utilising over 250 traffic control signs and 20 variable message boards," she said.
"With 70 personnel on site, the project was successfully and safely delivered ahead of schedule, had no WHS or environmental incidents and had minimal disruption to the public. As a result Downer EDI Works had a very satisfied client and are worthy winners of this award," Denita Wawn said.
