Mount Gambier Library will host a National Simultaneous Storytime event later this month, celebrating the book The Cat Truck written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell.
On Wednesday 21 May 2025, millions of people from around Australia will come together for a simultaneous reading of picture book The Truck Cat. Children and families are invited to take part in this nationwide occasion at an event hosted by Mount Gambier Library at City Hall from 10:30am.
National Simultaneous Storytime helps to promote the importance of reading and value of children's stories. - Team Leader Children's and Youth Services Erin Jones
Written by award-winning author Deborah Frenkel, The Truck Cat inspires kindness and compassion and focuses on cat Tinka.
Along with his human, Yacoub, Tinka travels roads wide and narrow, near and distant. But no matter where they go, home feels very far away. When Tinka and Yacoub are unexpectedly separated, they are determined to find their way back to each other - and, in doing so, might find more than they expected.
"This year's book is all about connection and belonging. We are excited to be part of this special event that connects communities through a shared love of reading. It is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together, engage with literacy, and have a great time," Mrs Jones said.
The Library will provide themed activities designed to bring the story to life and spark the imagination of children aged 2 to 7 years old, followed by the simultaneous book reading at 11:30am.
