National Sorry Day is held on 26 May each year to acknowledge and recognise members of the Stolen Generations.
In 1997, the Bringing them Home report was tabled at Parliament as a result of a national inquiry that investigated the forced removal of Indigenous children from their families. This marked a pivotal moment in the healing journey of many Stolen Generations members.
Since 1998, National Sorry Day, is held in Australia to remember and commemorate the mistreatment of the country's Indigenous peoples, as part of an ongoing process of reconciliation between the Indigenous peoples and the settler population
