The NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, Javier Colomina, conducted his first official visit to Israel, from 19 to 21 January 2026. He met senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, and the National Security Council, with whom he discussed the regional security situation, bilateral relations, as well as Iran's destabilising activities.
Special Representative Colomina highlighted the importance of stability in the Middle East. He further reaffirmed NATO's continued commitment to working with all of its partners to contribute to security and stability in the region.
The NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood is responsible for enhancing NATO's dialogue and cooperation with the Middle East, North Africa and Sahel regions, as well as coordinating, and increasing the visibility of, the Alliance's efforts in the region.
