The NDIA is releasing a new consultation paper focused on supporting NDIS participants to have more control over how and where they live.
As part of the NDIA's continued work on its Home and Living Policy, the Agency has today released a paper, 'An Ordinary Life at Home', to inform the way participants are supported to pursue their home and living goals.
"The NDIS is fundamentally about providing NDIS participants with the reasonable and necessary disability supports they require to live their best life and build greater independence," NDIA CEO Martin Hoffman said.
"In line with this, we want participants to have more choice and control over where and how they live. The release of this paper marks the start of a 10-week consultation period, during which the NDIA will seek feedback from participants and the wider sector on how best to support people to achieve this."
The consultation paper has been developed with support from the NDIA's Independent Advisory Council (IAC), which continues to represent the participants' voice in the NDIS.
IAC member Dr Leighton Jay said it was important participants took the opportunity to review the policy and have their say.
"The IAC and its Reference Group members know that it is important the Agency develops the right home and living and support for decision making policies to guide future decision making, actions and scheme development," Dr Jay said.
"I am excited about the Home and Living paper's shift in focus when considering participants' accommodation needs. Having a home where you decide where you live, who you live with and how you can best be supported is where conversations and considerations need to begin.
"I encourage everyone to see this as a genuine opportunity to contribute to developing the NDIA's Home and Living policy. We want to hear your thoughts and views and I can assure you that the Reference Group will include them as we continue to work in partnership with the Agency to finalise the policy. Thank you in advance for taking the time to share them with us."
The Agency will use feedback gathered during the Home and Living consultation period to develop the policy and determine the next steps for implementation.
The NDIA has also released a paper, 'Supporting you to make your own decisions', on how NDIS participants can be supported to make decisions that impact them.
Consultations open today (June 21) and will close at 5pm on Friday 27 August.
