Dementia Australia congratulates Neil Samuel OAM for his inclusion in the Australia Day Honours, receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division.
Mr Samuel has been honoured for his service to people living with dementia, and to the community.
Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe acknowledged Mr Samuel for this well-deserved honour on behalf of all people impacted by dementia.
"I commend Neil's ongoing commitment to people living with dementia, their families and carers. We are very fortunate to have had Neil's expertise, guidance and support in various capacities for many years" Ms McCabe said.
"We recently recognised Neil's efforts officially through a Dementia Australia Honour, and are thrilled to see him receive further recognition in the Australia Day Honours.
"Neil has made an outstanding contribution that has without a doubt made a difference to the lives of all Australians who have been impacted by dementia."
Mr Samuel's passion for dementia was born out of family experience with Alzheimer's disease, and he said he was delighted to receive an Australia Day Honour.
"I am very humbled to receive this honour. My work with people impacted by dementia and Dementia Australia over the years has been extremely fulfilling," Mr Samuel said.
"I look forward to continuing to work in support of people living with dementia, their families and carers."
Mr Samuel previously served on the board of Alzheimer's Australia Vic including as Honorary Secretary, Deputy Chair and Chair. In 2007, he was appointed to the Board of Alzheimer's Australia Limited, now Dementia Australia Limited, where he served until 2019. Mr Samuel continues to serve on the Board of Dementia Australia Research Foundation and as a member of Dementia Australia's Finance, Audit, Risk Management committee.
