Ms Sievers brings extensive experience in statutory leadership, anti-discrimination law and community advocacy, with a strong background in complex and highly scrutinised operating environments.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett, said Ms Sievers is a highly experienced statutory office holder with a strong record of independence, ethical judgement and effective leadership.
"Ms Sievers' deep understanding of anti-discrimination law, dispute resolution and systemic reform will be a significant asset to Tasmania," the Attorney-General said.
"Ms Sievers is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Territory Council of Social Service and previously served for a decade as Anti-Discrimination Commissioner for the Northern Territory, as well as Principal Community Visitor.
"Her career includes senior statutory roles, judicial appointments and significant experience advising governments on complex and contentious reform matters."
Ms Sievers was selected following an extensive expression of interest process that attracted a strong field of candidates from across Australia.
The appointment is for a five year term, commencing from the date of Ms Sievers' instrument of appointment.
"I'd like to thank Pia Saturno for her service as Acting Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, acknowledging her leadership and contribution during the interim period," the Attorney-General said.
"I welcome Ms Sievers to the role and congratulate her on her appointment."
