- The Crisafulli Government has appointed three new members to the Legal Aid Queensland Board.
- Ms Tanya Diessel, Ms Marjorie Daley and Mr Andrew Knox bring extensive legal and governance experience to the Board.
- New board members will join former Governor and Chief Justice the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, CVO, KC to lead Legal Aid into the future.
- The Crisafulli Government is delivering on its commitment to provide victims of crime with faster access to justice.
The Crisafulli Government has announced the appointment of three esteemed senior legal figures to the Board of Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ).
Ms Tanya Diessel, Ms Marjorie Daley and Mr Andrew Knox each bring a wealth of experience in legal and corporate governance to the Board, which is responsible for the strategic direction and management of Legal Aid Queensland.
Currently the Chief Executive Officer of Gold Coast Community Legal Centre, Ms Diessel has a deep understanding of delivering legal support to vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community.
She has been actively involved in the community legal sector since her admission as a solicitor in 2012, and her strong capability across governance, strategy, risk and compliance will be an asset to the LAQ Board.
Ms Daley was called to the Bar in 2021, following more than 10 years practice as a senior lawyer at Minter Ellison, working from its Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane offices.
She also worked for three years in Oxford, England and has broad experience acting for government and private sector clients and their insurers, as well as extensive general commercial litigation with a particular interest in professional negligence and insurance-related disputes.
Mr Knox is former partner at top tier law firm Allens and a commercial advisor with more than 40 years of personal and advisory experience in corporate governance and risk management.
He is both a Graduate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is highly experienced as a non-executive director, and is currently serving on other governance boards including Peggy's Place Ltd, and Sentia Healthcare.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity Deb Frecklington congratulated the three appointees and thanked the outgoing members for their contributions.
"Legal Aid Queensland is a critically important institution that works tirelessly to meet the diverse needs of disadvantaged clients and deliver access to justice," the Attorney-General said.
"I am delighted the Board will now benefit from the diverse talents of Tanya Diessel, Marjorie Daley and Andrew Knox and I thank them for their willingness to help ensure the legal needs of the community continue to be met into the future.
"Each possesses the knowledge, experience and unwavering commitment to the community to succeed in these important positions and that will be invaluable for LAQ's future direction.
"I thank the outgoing board members for their contributions to LAQ and wish them well in their future endeavours."
Tanya Diessel, Marjorie Daley and Andrew Knox have each been appointed for a three-year term, commencing on 6 February 2026.
