New area of Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors

The Queensland Government has announced the creation of a new area within the Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, Disability Connect Queensland (DCQ).

A key strategy of DCQ will be to seek and consider the lived experience and views of people with disability, their families, carers and the sector.

NDS welcomes this development, which will see the DCQ monitoring the QLD Government's investment in the NDIS to ensure it delivers on projected employment and economic benefits.

In an effort to remove barriers for employment of people with disability, DCQ will have a goal of 20 percent of the areas existing FTEs being people with disability.

The state government's commitment to supporting the enhanced social and economic opportunities and inclusion of Queenslanders with disability is supported by more than $1.45 billion investment in disability services in the 2019-2020 State Budget.
