Over the past year, the Caloundra Bus Interchange building has undergone an exciting transformation to become Sub Tropic Studio - a vibrant creative hub of artist studios, workshops and exhibition spaces, creating a home for a fabulous line-up of local artists.
The latest Sunshine Coast local welcomed into the new studio space is emerging artist, Ebony Busk.
Ebony joins Sub Tropic as a part of Sunshine Coast Council's Creative Spaces Artist in Residence program that provides affordable space for artists to develop and showcase their work, experiment and collaborate.
"I am very excited and grateful to have been invited to be an artist in residence at Sub Tropic Studio," Ebony said.
"This is an amazing opportunity that will give me space for artistic reflection, experimentation and creation.
"I'm looking forward to welcoming the public into my studio and helping create a community based artistic initiative."
The previously unused bus interchange building space was given the creative makeover thanks to a joint initiative between Sunshine Coast Council's Creative Spaces program, the Place2 project and the Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance.
Community Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said increasing the available studio and exhibition space for artists was a key action in the Sunshine Coast Arts Plan.
"Sub Tropic Studio was the latest addition to our growing creative space network last year and it's already thriving, and adding to what is becoming a really vibrant arts scene in Caloundra," Cr Baberowski said.
"Supporting young and emerging artists so they can establish their careers here on the Sunshine Coast is incredibly important and with this space we can offer longer opportunities, such as Ebony's 12-month residency, which is our longest residency to date."
Sub Tropic Studio is also home to photographer Karina Jean Sharpe and illustrator Marni Stuart.
There is also a changing program of pop-up workshops and exhibitions - this month (August) featuring 2019 Sunshine Coast Art Prize finalist Gerwyn Davies.
