The Liberal & Nationals Government has today committed $100,000 to help fund From the Shadows—an important arts project which tells the stories of convict women and orphan school children in Tasmania through sculpture.
From the Shadows will connect the arts, tourism and historic hertiage through high quality sculptural installations created by internationally renowned Irish sculpturer, Rowan Gillepsie.
The installation will follow on from the highly successful Footsteps towards Freedom statues on the Hobart waterfront, which was unveiled in October 2017.
This project will feature three sculptural installations at two sites including the World Heritage Cascades Female Factory Historic Site in South Hobart and the State heritage-listed Orphan Schools site in New Town.
The Liberal & Nationals Government knows that an increase in hertiage tourism will benefit all Tasmanians and give the local economy a major boost with flow on benefits to the accommodation, hospitality, and tourism sectors.
Tasmania's convict hertiage is a huge drawcard for visitors to the state and it is crucial that we continue to develop new opportunities and experiences for tourists.
