Two brand new bushland trails at Jells Park in Melbourne's east are now open to the public, giving local families a new place to exercise and enjoy the outdoors, following an investment from the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for the Environment Steve Dimopoulos today announced the opening of new shared-use trails for visitors to walk, run or cycle while taking in views of Jells Lake and the park's open green spaces.
Made possible through a $5.9 million investment to improve the experience, accessibility and provide new amenities for visitors to enjoy, the Lake and Bushland trails were developed following community consultation - ensuring they meet the expectations and needs of everyone who loves the park.
The shorter Lake Trail is around 2.5 kilometres and includes a new asphalt path, and also features solar lighting, drinking fountains, seating, and signage. The trail loops around the café and modern play spaces and showcases great views of the lake.
The longer Bushland Trail is about five kilometres, with sections of gravel path, and includes drinking fountains, seating and signage line the trail.
Jells Park is a much-loved park in Melbourne's south-east, offering plenty of opportunities to soak up the benefits of being in nature, and offers great access for visitors with diverse needs. There is big open spaces for exercise and several picnic areas for recreation.
In addition to the two new walking trails, the Labor Government has replaced two jetties at Jells Park, and the Oaks playground has also been recently renewed.
These upgrades are part of the Asset Regeneration Program, a $24.76 million investment to remove unsafe infrastructure and to repair or replace assets across the Parks Victoria managed sites.

"The new shared-use trails now open at Jells Park will provide more opportunities for people to connect with nature - whether it is walking, running or cycling through the park's many green spaces."
"Thanks to the community's extensive feedback, the shared-use trails have been designed to ensure as many people as possible can get out and explore nature at their local park."
As stated by Member for Glen Waverley John Mullahy
