New CEO Announcement

The City of Mount Gambier is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Simpson as its new Chief Executive Officer, commencing 3 November 2025.

Mr Simpson brings more than two decades of diverse leadership experience in local government and community focused sectors. Most recently, he served as Interim CEO at Barunga West Council in the Yorke and Mid North region of South Australia, where he successfully navigated a period of senior staff absences while maintaining momentum on key infrastructure projects and ensuring organisational stability.

Previously, Mr Simpson was CEO of the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton, also within the Yorke and Mid North region. During his tenure, he led a transformative phase of infrastructure development, securing major grants for a residential subdivision under the competitive Regional Housing Infrastructure Program and leading a significant Mainstreet Development project funded through the Growing Regions Fund.

His career also includes experience in disaster recovery project delivery, supporting communities affected by the Victorian Black Saturday bushfires, major flooding events, and the Kangaroo Island fires. Mr Simpson has held senior roles in large local government organisations such as Mitchell Shire Council in Melbourne's Northern Growth Corridor, and has worked in the disability services and cemeteries sectors under Victorian State Government oversight.

With a strong focus on financial sustainability, economic development, and community wellbeing, Mr Simpson is passionate about building resilient, inclusive, and environmentally conscious communities.

"I am really excited about the opportunity to work for the City of Mount Gambier, I have enjoyed watching the transformation of the city over the last several years in particular. Having owned a property in the South East I have used Mount Gambier as a service hub throughout the years and have witnessed the development," Mr Simpson said.

"I am honoured to join the dedicated team at the City of Mount Gambier and am looking forward to building on the excellent work already underway, engaging with the community, and supporting council to deliver the best outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors."

"Mount Gambier is going to be a fantastic regional city to nourish and grow my young family, we can't wait to move into the area and start our new journey."

Mayor Lynette Martin welcomed Mr Simpson's appointment.

"Paul's extensive experience and proven leadership in regional development and community-focused governance will be a tremendous asset to our city. His passion for sustainable growth and his collaborative approach aligns perfectly with our vision for Mount Gambier's future. We are confident he will help us build on our momentum and continue delivering meaningful outcomes for our community," Mayor Lynette Martin said.

"It is an exciting time to be joining the City of Mount Gambier as it is primed for success following the strategic work Council has undertaken over the past few years. We look forward to welcoming Mr Simpson to our community."
