CNRL is a shared library network bringing together Tamworth Regional Council, Narrabri Shire Council, Gwydir Shire Council, Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Uralla Shire Council and Walcha Shire Council to deliver public library services across the region. Together, the six councils support a network of 15 library branches.
Through this collaborative model, members can borrow from any branch within the network, providing access to a significantly larger shared collection than a standalone library service could typically offer.
Beyond books, local libraries serve as vital community hubs, hosting children's story time sessions, literacy and early learning programs, technology assistance, author talks, workshops, school holiday activities and community events. Libraries also provide free internet access, study spaces, printing and scanning services, and welcoming spaces for people of all ages to connect, learn and participate.
Tamworth Regional Council Acting Manager, Learning Communities, Jonathan Stilts, said community feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the future of local library services.
"Our libraries are much more than places to borrow books, they are trusted community spaces that support lifelong learning, creativity and connection," he said.
"To ensure we continue meeting the evolving needs of our communities, it's essential we hear directly from residents about what they value most and what opportunities they would like to see into the future."
Walcha Shire Councillor, Adam Iuston, said the shared network delivers strong benefits across council boundaries.
"By working together through the CNRL network, our councils are able to offer a broader range of services, programs and resources than we could individually," Cr Iuston said.
"This Strategic Plan is an opportunity for our communities to help shape a modern, responsive library service that continues to support learning and connection across the region."
Community members across each of the six LGAs are invited to share their input by completing the online survey at haveyoursay.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/cnrl-strategic-plan before 5pm Monday 30 March, 2026.
