New date for opening of Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at Australian National Maritime Museum

NEW DATE – exhibitionopens Friday 13 April

WildlifePhotographer of the Year is the most prestigiousphotography event of its kind, providing a global platform that showcases thenatural world’s most astonishing and challenging sights for over 50 years.

Winning images are selected for theircreativity, originality and technical excellence. Launching in 1965 and attracting 361 entries,today the competition receives almost 50,000 entries from 92 countrieshighlighting its enduring appeal. This year’s 100 award-winning images willembark on an international tour that allows them to be seen by millions ofpeople.

Sir Michael Dixon, Director of theNatural History Museum, says ‘WildlifePhotographer of the Year is one of our most successful touring exhibitions,enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. The awarded images shine aspotlight on nature photography as a work of art, whilst raising questionsabout our crucial role in shaping a sustainable future.’

Kevin Sumption,director of the Australian National Maritime Museum, said the Wildlife Photographer of the Yearexhibition held broad appeal due to its rich subject matter showcasing the diversity of life. "This is one of the most innovative and popularphotographic competitions of its kind and we are delighted that Sydneyaudiences can once again enjoy these unforgettable and inspiring images at theAustralian National Maritime Museum."

And to make theexhibition extra special Sydney visitors can also come face to face withequipment used by celebrated Australian shark photographers Ron and ValerieTaylor and experience the brand new Oceans3D film which runs in the museum’s theatre (check the museum’swebsite for schedule).

The 53rd Wildlife Photographer of the YearExhibition is a featured exhibition of Head On Photo Festival 2018and ---opens on 30 March 2017. Exhibition labels are availabledigitally in six languages. Tickets are $20 adults, $12 concessions/childrenand $50. F
