A successful NSW Government My Community Funding application and partnership with Armidale Regional Council will deliver a new grandstand and upgraded facilities for the Guyra Junior Rugby League Club.
The $220,000 transformation at the Guyra Lions Sporting Complex is well underway with contractors constructing a permanent tiered concrete grandstand with an awning to cover the entire seating area allowing all weather spectator viewing in front of the existing clubhouse. Accessibility will also be improved with a concrete path to a disability access ramp.
Armidale Regional Council Director of Businesses and Services Scot MacDonald said Guyra Rugby League members and supporters are looking forward to enjoying a game once the new grandstand is complete.
"All credit to the Guyra Junior Rugby League Club committee for their vision and successful application for funding," said Mr MacDonald.
"The initial injection of funding by the State Government of $120,000 has enabled Council to contribute a further $86,000 towards the overall project. This is a wonderful collaboration that is now producing great dividends for the Guyra sporting community."
The Guyra Lions Sporting Complex can now boast to being one of the Armidale Region's best equipped and spectator friendly sporting facilities and is testament to the strength and vision of the Guyra Junior Rugby League Club.
President of the Guyra Rugby League Club Gina Lockyer said even in the face of the current pandemic the club was going from strength to strength.
"We have such a great bunch of people up here in Guyra at the club who really care about our community and want to see it thrive, particularly sport in the region," said Mrs Lockyer.
"We are extremely grateful to our Local State Member Adam Marshall, the State Government and the Council for sharing our vision for improving the sporting facilities available at the ground."
