New Grants To Preserve Queensland's Rich Rail History

• As part of the 160th anniversary of rail in Queensland, a special community grants fund is being launched to help rail heritage organisations across the State.

The Crisafulli Government is marking 160 years of rail in Queensland with a $160,000 community grants fund aimed at supporting not-for-profit rail heritage organisations.

The milestone grants fund reflects the Crisafulli Government's commitment to preserving Queensland's rail history by helping heritage groups bolster their operations and ensure their invaluable work continues for generations to come.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said it was an exciting opportunity to honour the vital role rail has played in shaping our communities, economy, and identity over the past 160 years.

"This grants program is a great way to give back to the heritage organisations that work tirelessly to keep Queensland's rail legacy alive," Mr Mickelberg said.

"We're proud to celebrate this incredible milestone by supporting those who share in our passion for rail and its place in Queensland's story."

Queensland Rail CEO Kat Stapleton said the grants would enable local organisations to continue their meaningful work across the State.

"The one-off grants program is open to not-for-profit, Queensland-based rail heritage operators that have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN)," Ms Stapleton said.

"Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to rail heritage operators that can demonstrate a clear need for financial support for maintenance and repairs to rollingstock or community rail infrastructure.
