New gym equipment for Swan Hill and Robinvale

Swan Hill Rural City Council has given leisure centres in Swan Hill and Robinvale a boost, investing a total of $200,000 towards the replacement of gym equipment at the facilities.

Swan Hill Leisure Centre's Acting Centre Manager, Karla Barnes said the investment would provide a much-needed boost to the industry.

"We are really grateful to Council for providing this funding following a difficult 12 months for the leisure centre industry and its members.

"New equipment will enhance the whole facility," Ms Barnes said.

Mayor Bill Moar, who is also a member of the Swan Hill Leisure Centre, said he was delighted Council could support the project.

"Swan Hill Leisure Centre is a fantastic facility and a one stop shop - it has access to great new modern equipment, all year round swimming and child minding facilities.

"This funding replaces approximately 80 per cent of the existing equipment at each facility," he said.

A contribution of $120,000 has been made to the Swan Hill Leisure Centre and $80,000 for the Robinvale Leisure Centre.

"We hope these investments will help to encourage more residents in our region to join and enjoy the benefits of increasing their physical activity, health and wellbeing," Cr Moar added.

Ms Barnes said that the new equipment would assist their facilities in attracting and retaining members.

"The average age of the previous equipment was more than10 years; we know that member retention can begin to suffer when equipment reaches above six years - we are thrilled to now have the latest modern equipment.

"The investment included the purchase of 10 spin bikes for Robinvale Leisure Centre," she added.
