Hobart's local economy is set for a big boost, with a vibrant new city-wide initiative designed to keep spending local and champion small businesses, as the Hello Hobart Gift Card launches this June.

The Hello Hobart Gift Card is aimed at delivering a meaningful boost to the local economy by encouraging residents and visitors to shop, dine and experience Hobart locally.

From restaurants and retail to unique local experiences, the gift card can be redeemed at more than 60 businesses across the Hobart Local Government Area.

CommBank iQ data for April shows $136 million was spent in Hobart on local businesses, up 2% on the same time last year, but with all sectors facing tough economic conditions, the City of Hobart is urging residents and visitors to shop and support local.

Available in both physical and digital formats, the gift card is designed to help small, independently owned businesses attract new customers, increase repeat visits and strengthen community connections.

To celebrate the launch, City of Hobart parking inspectors will be giving out $50 gift cards, rewarding drivers who display positive parking behaviour.

The program is open to eligible businesses operating within the Hobart LGA that are independently owned and operated and hold an active Tasmanian ABN.

The initiative encourages residents, businesses and visitors to choose local when giving gifts, whether for birthdays, thank-yous, end-of-year celebrations or those hard-to-buy-for moments.

Customers can purchase the cards online at hellohobart.com.au/giftcard or at the Council Customer Service Centre 16 Elizabeth Street and redeem them at approved local businesses for goods and services. Businesses receive full payment for every transaction made.
