New Home For Albert Park Scouts

VIC Premier

Albert Park Scout Groups will soon have a modern, purpose-built home, funded by the Allan Labor Government, which will help them to gain life skills, make new friendships and connect with their community.

Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman and Member for Albert Park Nina Taylor today turned the first sod at the Ferrars Place site.

The project is part of the Labor Government's $5.5 million funding announcement in 2018, matched by Scouts Victoria, to build, upgrade or refurbish scout halls across Victoria.

The Victorian Budget 2023/24 contributed significantly towards the redevelopment and upgrade of a further six Scout Halls in South Frankston, Bannockburn, Deer Park, Bundoora, Sandown and Eltham.

Scouts Victoria is the state's largest informal education organisation with a membership base of more than 20,000 young people and 5,000 adult volunteers. The number of young people participating in Scouting activities has grown by 30 per cent since Labor came into office in 2014.

Scouts Victoria has a rich history of fostering teamwork, caring for community and developing leadership skills among young Victorians.

Accessing scouting activities supports young people's positive development and growth by creating opportunities for them to work with others, tackle challenges and lead in their communities.

As stated by Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman

"We're proud to support the scouting movement with the construction and upgrades of scout halls across the state so young people can participate in activities that enrich their knowledge."

"Scouting is an important part of the fabric of Victoria, helping young people develop leadership skills and providing a genuine sense of community spirit."

As stated by Member for Albert Park Nina Taylor

"We're delighted to be delivering a modern, purpose-built new Scout Hall for the people of Albert Park and surrounding neighbourhoods, a place for young people to meet, gain life skills and build new connections."

As stated by Chief Commissioner of Scouts Victoria Rod Byrnes

"We are immensely grateful for the Allan Labor Government's support. As we break ground on this exciting project, we're reminded of the power of partnership and community in creating new opportunities that allow youth to thrive."
