New Homelessness Campaign: More than 17,000 Australians Homeless and Left 'Couch Surfing'

· Couch surfing is an insidious form of homelessness affecting 17,000 Australian on any given night

· Half of all couch surfers are under the age of 25 and 60 per cent are female - many fleeing domestic violence.

· The campaign was launched by the NSW Minister for Families and Communities, Natasha Maclaren-Jones.

· The event launched a pilot of the MEND Couch Support Service a free multi-lingual web and text support service connecting couch surfers and their hosts to government assistance.
