Premier Mark McGowan joined Environment Minister Stephen Dawson and Water Minister Dave Kelly in Joondalup today to officially open the new Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) offices.
Up to 800 public servants will move into the new offices, situated in Prime House, which will provide a boost to the local economy in Joondalup and surrounding suburbs.
DWER has recently undergone Machinery of Government changes and continues to play an important role in facilitating and enabling important economic projects.
Perth's northern suburbs have experienced rapid growth and the McGowan Government is committed to delivering important infrastructure and services for the local community.
The METRONET Yanchep Rail extension, which will extend the Joondalup train line to Yanchep, is on track to begin construction this year.
The McGowan Government is also undertaking a significant program of road upgrades in the northern suburbs, including extending the Mitchell Freeway from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road; Wanneroo Road widening to Flynn Drive; Wanneroo Road-Ocean Reef Road interchange; Wanneroo Road-Joondalup Drive interchange and the Marmion Avenue Dual Carriageway from Butler to Yanchep.
The Joondalup Health Campus is undergoing a $158 million upgrade, with a 12-bed stroke unit and mental health observation area recently opened.
The McGowan Government is also proceeding with the much anticipated Ocean Reef Marina, which will create hundreds of jobs in construction and in local businesses once open.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
"The rapidly growing northern suburbs are home to thousands of WA families, and investing in key infrastructure and services in these suburbs is a priority of my Government.
"With up to 800 public servants moving into the building, the new Department of Water and Environmental Regulation offices will support local businesses and deliver a boost to the local economy in Joondalup.
"I'd like to acknowledge Director General Mike Rowe and everyone at DWER who has worked hard to make this move possible.
"My Government knows how important Joondalup is to our State, which is why we are continuing with a number of important projects including extending the rail line to Yanchep, upgrading Joondalup Health Campus and building the much anticipated Ocean Reef Marina."
