The Minns Labor Government is continuing to invest in road safety, with a new-look pedestrian crossing design being trialled in the heart of Griffith to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists.
Two pedestrian crossings on Griffith's busy Banna Avenue have been given a bold new look, with a red and white "St George" design being trialled to improve visibility and safety for pedestrians and motorists.
The crossings outside Griffith Courthouse now feature a distinctive red background and refreshed white "piano key" bar markings on both eastbound and westbound approaches.
Transport for NSW installed the crossings following a request from Griffith City Council earlier this year to improve pedestrian crossing visibility along Banna Avenue, where high numbers of pedestrians regularly interact with traffic.
The new design aims to provide greater contrast against the road surface, making the crossings easier for approaching drivers to see, particularly in busy urban environments.
Transport for NSW will monitor the performance of the new design to assess how effectively it improves safety and meets community needs.
If successful, similar treatments could be considered for other pedestrian crossings on Banna Avenue.
Transport for NSW will also hold a pop-up information stall in Griffith to raise awareness of pedestrian safety and seek feedback from the community about the new crossing design.
Pop-up information stall details:
